Policy for TextSnap
Privacy policy
In short
- Text is read on your phone. Your pictures and text never leave it unless you share them.
- Your scan history stays on your phone, and you can turn it off or delete it.
- The camera is optional.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. You choose what it may use in Settings.
- There are no accounts, and we don't sell data.
1. Who we are
TextSnap is made by Syaafi Labs (Syaafi Labs Enterprise). Questions about this policy: support@syaafilabs.com.
2. Your pictures and text
Text is read from your camera or from the pictures you pick or share into TextSnap, on your phone, by Google's ML Kit text recognition. Your pictures and their text are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. Photos taken with Capture are not saved to your gallery.
When you choose Save as .txt or Save as PDF, the file is saved to Documents/TextSnap on your phone.
3. History
When Keep history is on (it is by default), each scan is kept on your phone: a smaller copy of the picture (up to 1,600 px) and its text, including your edits. The oldest scans are removed once there are more than 500. The pictures are stored in the app's private storage and left out of phone backups.
You can delete one scan or all of them in History. You can also turn off Keep history in Settings; the app then asks whether to delete the scans already kept. With history off, pictures are not kept after reading.
4. Text readers
The text readers are downloaded to your phone by Google Play services: the Latin reader when the app is installed, and each other writing system the first time you choose it. The reading itself happens on your phone.
5. Permissions
Camera (optional): to read text through the camera. The app first shows a screen that explains why, and Android asks only after you tap Allow camera. The camera is used only while the camera screen is open. Without it, you can still read text from pictures you pick or share.
The app has no access to your gallery or files beyond the pictures you pick or share.
6. Copying, sharing and actions
Text leaves the app only when you choose. Copy puts it on your phone's clipboard; text that looks like a password or card number is marked as sensitive there. Share, Search and Translate hand the text to another app you choose: Search opens a web search for up to 200 characters of it, and Translate opens your translation app.
One-tap actions open another app with the details filled in: the dialer (it doesn't call by itself), your email app, your browser, calendar, contacts or maps. Nothing happens until you confirm it there. Copy password copies a Wi-Fi password and opens your Wi-Fi settings.
7. Feedback
If you send feedback from Settings, we receive your message, its type, your email if you give it, the app version, Android version, phone model and language. We use it only to answer you and improve TextSnap, keep it for up to 12 months, and never sell or share it. Your IP address isn't stored with it.
8. Ads
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address (which gives an approximate location), how you interact with ads, and diagnostic information. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, the UK and some US states), you are asked for consent first. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Ad privacy choices. A Premium subscription in the app turns ads off.

9. Purchases
Premium is a subscription (US$2 a month or US$20 a year) sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and the renewal, and you can cancel any time in Google Play. TextSnap only learns whether your subscription is active.
10. Children
TextSnap isn't directed at children under 13.
11. Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
