Privacy policy
In short
- Your scans are processed on your phone and never uploaded.
- Scanning and text reading use Google's ML Kit, running on your phone through Google Play services.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. You choose what it may use in Settings.
- There are no accounts, and we don't sell data.
1. Who we are
Doc Scanner is made by Syaafi Labs (Syaafi Labs Enterprise). Questions about this policy: support@syaafilabs.com.
2. Your scans
The pages you scan are processed on your phone. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. Saved scans go to Documents/Doc Scanner (PDF) or Pictures/Doc Scanner (JPG).
While you review a scan, its pages are kept in the app's private storage, so an unsaved scan can be continued if the app is closed.
3. Google's document scanner
Scanning uses Google's ML Kit document scanner, which runs inside Google Play services on your phone. The scanner shows the camera, finds the page edges and cleans up the pages; Doc Scanner only receives the page images you scan. In the scanner you can also pick a photo of a page from your gallery. Google Play services downloads the scanner once, the first time you scan.
4. Text recognition
The Text button and searchable PDFs read the words on your pages with Google's ML Kit text recognition, on your phone. The model comes from Google Play services, which downloads it once, when the app is installed or first used. The text is not uploaded. It is shown to you, copied to your phone's clipboard if you tap Copy all, and, if Searchable PDF is on, saved as an invisible layer inside your PDF.
5. Recent scans
The home screen lists the scans you saved in Doc Scanner (up to 50): the name, the number of pages and when you made it. The list is kept by the app on your phone and is never sent to us. Removing a scan from the list keeps the file, unless you choose to delete the file too.
6. Permissions
Doc Scanner doesn't ask for any permissions. It has no camera permission, because the camera is used by Google's scanner in Google Play services. It has no storage permission either: scans are saved through Android's shared storage, and the app can't see your other files.
7. Feedback
If you send feedback from Settings, we receive your message, its type, your email if you give it, the app version, Android version, phone model and language. We use it only to answer you and improve Doc Scanner, keep it for up to 12 months, and never sell or share it. Your IP address isn't stored with it.
8. Ads
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address (which gives an approximate location), how you interact with ads, and diagnostic information. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, the UK and some US states), you are asked for consent first. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Ad privacy choices. A Premium subscription in the app turns ads off.

9. Purchases
Premium is a subscription (US$2 a month or US$20 a year) sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and the renewal, and you can cancel any time in Google Play. Doc Scanner only learns whether your subscription is active.
10. Children
Doc Scanner isn't directed at children under 13.
11. Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
